Simon Ower SC practises in most areas of civil and commercial law, with an emphasis on commercial disputes, public and administrative law, matters involving equity, trusts and deceased estates, and family law. He is also a Nationally Accredited Mediator.
Simon has been recognised as:
- 'Recommended' Wills & Estates Litigation Barrister - Australia (Doyle's Guide, 2017).
- 'Leading' Wills & Estates Litigation Barrister - South Australia (Doyle's Guide, 2017).
Simon commenced practice as a barrister in 2002 and was appointed senior counsel in 2016. He was Associate to the Honourable Justice Sackville of the Federal Court of Australia in 2000-2001. He has appeared as both lead and junior counsel in the High Court of Australia and various Full Courts and Courts of Appeal. He appears regularly in the Supreme Court of South Australia, the Federal Court of Australia and the Federal Circuit Court of Australia.
In addition to his commercial practice, Simon also has a strong commitment to acting in human rights and pro bono matters, with a particular interest in migration law, environmental matters and criminal appeals. He is available to consider briefs in meritorious cases where funding may not otherwise be available.
Simon is a member of the South Australian Bar Association, serving on the Bar Council as an ordinary Member, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, and the Australian Institute of Administrative Law.
He is regularly invited to present papers on his areas of expertise.
