Jemma Holt was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of South Australia in 2011. She accepts briefs across a broad range of practice areas, with particular expertise in Criminal Law and Public and Administrative Law.

Before joining Edmund Barton Chambers in 2026, Jemma worked in South Australia with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Crown Solicitor’s Office, the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption, and the Office for Public Integrity. She also worked in Tasmania with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and Tasmania Police.

Jemma has appeared as counsel in first instance and appellate proceedings across courts and tribunals in South Australia and Tasmania. She is experienced in conducting criminal trials as independent counsel.

Jemma is a nationally accredited mediator under the Australian Mediator and Dispute Resolution Accreditation Standards (AMDRAS).

In addition to her advocacy and mediation practice, Jemma has undertaken significant law reform and justice policy work. She has acted as an independent consultant and lead researcher for the South Australian Law Reform Institute and the Tasmania Law Reform Institute. She has authored reports for Attorneys-General, contributed to policy and procedural manuals for public authorities, and provided expert advice on justice policy initiatives.

Jemma is currently completing a PhD at the Adelaide Law School examining the use of pre-recorded evidence in South Australia. Aspects of this research have been published in leading Australian law journals. She also contributes to legal education through clinical supervision and sessional teaching in criminal law, evidence, and advocacy in South Australia and Tasmania.
